OpenVista is a cross-platform IDE which enables the rapid design,development, and distribution of Java(TM) applets and applications forsimplified legacy host and enterprise information access. OpenVistaenables on-the-fly development of 3270, 5250, VT220 front-end Javaapplets, without any prior Java knowledge or programming experience.OpenVista utilizes a unique visual metaphor to enable developers tocreate simplified user screens, environments, or to automate processesnormally associated with logging on, finding, accessing, manipulating,and viewing information located within traditional legacy dataapplications and repositories. In a typical environment, the applicationdeveloper will run OC://WebConnect to establish a traditional connectionto an enterprise application(s) or data source(s). In parallel, the userruns OpenVista, using the integrated tools to create screens, buttons,input fields, and output fields that "hide" traditional legacy screensand applications from the end user. Complex "green-on-black" screensnow appear as standard, familiar, and comfortable GUI front-ends. As theapplication developer is dragging, dropping, and customizing theapplication using simple tools and icons, OpenVista is automaticallygenerating Java classes and code. This new application incorporatesvarious data sources, without the complexities and costs traditionallyassociated with re-engineering.
